About Me

I started playing the flute at age 10, starting private lessons soon after. I attended Northern Arizona University Music Camp for six years in middle school and high school, participating in many top performing groups. In high school I started singing, also participated in the Arizona Solo & Ensemble Festival, getting top marks; and also Arizona Regional Band, Orchestra, and Choir.

I attended Arizona State University as a Music History major, as I loved hearing and reading about my favorite composers as well as performing. I graduated, and took some time off music. Then, I heard about a conducting seminar with the now-late David Epstein. I went, and that fueled a fire I always had for conducting. The next year I enrolled in Northern Arizona University's Instrumental Conducting program, graduating with my M.M. two years later.
I then taught middle school for a year, and found that I loved band directing. Love brought me to the Great Lakes region in 2004 to Buffalo until I married Gary Waleski in 2005 and moved to Oakville.

The future is uncertain, but I know I love to teach. I will teach all-comers what I know about flute, voice, theory and conducting (even musicology if there are any takers!) I love to teach so much that for me, giving a lesson is like opening presents on Christmas morning.

Teaching Methods

As above, I teach flute, voice, theory, and conducting. So what makes me different as a teacher? I believe in emphasizing EXPRESSION! Music to me is a language of emotion and form. Some say it can't be taught, but I believe a teacher can do a lot to develop it. Once a student has a basic idea of a piece, I ask, "What is this piece saying emotionally?" When the student has provided their own answer, I ask, "how do we say that when we play this piece?" Those two simple questions make huge differences in interpretation, and students as young as 10 can provide good answers.

Can YOU provide good answers? Come study with me and together we will explore great music's emotional secrets!

Coming Soon!

I will soon make myself available to play and sing at weddings and other events that need classical musicians. I will provide an accompanist.
